<p>The project required transforming early wireframes and design concepts into a polished, production-ready website that could handle a visually complex experience. We had to support high-resolution photography, custom illustrations, and animation without sacrificing performance or accessibility. Furthermore, the site needed to be structurally prepared for a team with no prior WordPress experience. The goal was a refined, intentional front-end supported by a backend system that was flexible, scalable, and easy to manage behind the scenes.</p>

<p>This project was a close collaboration between Vita Coco’s internal team and VSSL’s design and web teams. While Vita Coco set the foundation with wireframes and a predefined brand strategy, we took the lead from that starting point to bring the experience fully to life. Our role was to refine layouts and unify the visual system, ensuring that every design choice supported the Foundation’s mission while adhering to the broader Vita Coco brand DNA.</p>
<h4 style="padding-bottom:1rem;">Design Approach: A Digital Design System</h4>
<p>Rather than reinventing the brand, VSSL focused on creating a rigorous digital design system that translated Vita Coco’s existing branding into a high-fidelity web experience. We established specific rules for color hierarchy, typography, and layout density to ensure a cohesive experience across all 13 pages. This system utilized modular components and consistent interaction patterns to guide users through the Foundation’s storytelling.</p>
<p>The real impact was found in the interactive execution. We implemented custom micro-animations and purposeful interactive behaviors that added depth and visual momentum to the experience. By prioritizing performance, we ensured the site remained accessible and fast for a global audience, making the Foundation’s identity feel modern and engaging without breaking brand cohesion.</p>
<h4 style="padding-bottom:1rem;">Development &#038; Backend Usability</h4>
<p>The site was built in WordPress using a modular, component-based architecture designed for long-term scalability and independence. A key success metric for this build was &#8220;backend empathy&#8221; – ensuring the CMS was intuitive and forgiving for a team new to the WordPress environment. We structured the backend to mirror the front-end layout, utilizing custom fields and modules to make content updates straightforward and predictable.</p>
<p>This technical approach ensures the site wasn’t just visually complete at launch, but structurally prepared for future growth. To support a smooth handoff, VSSL conducted recorded training sessions covering site editing and page creation. As a result, the Vita Coco team now has full ownership of their digital home, successfully building and editing pages independently with minimal technical support.</p>

<p>The Vita Coco Community Foundation micro-site launched as a visually cohesive extension of the brand and a scalable platform for global storytelling. By focusing on a robust digital design system and an intuitive backend infrastructure, VSSL helped bring the Foundation’s digital presence to life while empowering their team with the independence to evolve the site as their work continues to grow.</p>

By increasing communities’ access to economic opportunity through tools, training, and strategic grants, the Foundation supports high-impact programs across the globe. As the Foundation’s mission grew, Vita Coco recognized the need for a dedicated digital home that could articulate this specific impact while remaining anchored to the main brand. They came to VSSL to bridge that gap, tasking us with translating their vision into a 13-page micro-site that balanced brand alignment with the Foundation’s own unique identity.</p>
