VSSL started with positioning, combining the ideas of trustworthy, simple, and fun into mission and vision statements, core beliefs, and brand pillars. The focus throughout all of these was empowerment and accessibility. VSSL sought to invite people in, not scare them away.
The brand voice embodied the tone of the positioning. VSSL wanted it to feel like Permiso was speaking directly to normal people — not just cloud “experts” — with a tone that is simple, conversational, and clever. Everything written is clear and factual so that it balances the irreverent visuals with a trustworthy tone of voice.
The visual identity combined bold colors and typography with a simple, fun illustration style to create a brand identity that couldn&#8217;t be more different from anything else in cloud security. Complex concepts are made simple using Permiso&#8217;s signature illustration style.
With the new brand solidified, VSSL set to work stress testing it by redesigning the Permiso website. The previous website had been a quick fix to get an online presence up quickly — just a handful of pages with unclear, off-brand messaging. Because it was built before their product was launched, the page copy felt theoretical and didn&#8217;t actually show any product screens or talk about specific functionality.
VSSL restructured the site to improve the user experience, rewrote the site copy to simultaneously reflect the brand voice and explain product functionality, and incorporated the newly developed brand visuals. The team also explored micro-animations and added hidden Easter eggs throughout the site.
The rebrand has been a huge success for Permiso. There has been an 82% increase in organic searches and a 135% boost in organic social engagement. On the website, the average engagement time increased by 167% and they saw a 14% increase in site visitors in the first month.
